Flora and Rainbow Hopping Bug Book
Flora has a unique connection with nature. Where others see creepy crawlies, Flora sees bright colours and things of wonder. When a cricket hops into Flora’s life, she instantly falls in love and names him Rainbow Hopping Bug. She promises her mum that she will take good care of him, but things don’t go to plan when he hops off.
Where did he go and what is he looking for? Join Flora as she goes in search of her missing friend to discover why he hopped away.
One Resource… Many uses
Based on our Flora and Rainbow Hopping Bug story book, we have created our Bushland Flora: A guide to mindfulness (pictured) book and a set of resources for you and your child to explore.
As Early Childhood Educators, when designing a resource, we ask ourselves a few key questions:
“What is the resource made of?”
“Can I use it for multiple things?”
“Can I use it across many different age groups?”
We developed our versatile range of resources with these questions in mind to ensure that Preschool and Primary School Teachers, Mental Health Professionals, Librarians and Families are able to access multi-purpose resources that create value, have longevity and extend learning across different age groups.
Book Readings and Incursions
SCHOOL VISITS AND VACATION CARE:
We love going into schools to share our story. We have given school talks on a number of different topics including our creative journey and how we collaborate. We engage with our school friends through planned learning activities and open Q&A sessions, face-to-face or online. We will give you insights into the process of creating a book from an author and illustrator perspective.
PRESCHOOL INCURSIONS: Early Childhood Education (ECE) Settings are our second home and we love engaging with children at this age. We have many supporting activities, which can be weaved into your programming and planning schedule. In addition, we both have experience of centre-based care and Family Day Care ECE environments and can tailor our presentation to suit your own service needs.
LIBRARY AND BOOK SHOP READINGS:
Using our extensive experience of working with young children, different storytelling techniques and our combined knowledge of age appropriate art and craft activities, we will create a unique book reading experience to provide your visitors with a fun and engaging learning experience that will be enjoyable for parents and children alike.
“Flora and Rainbow Hopping Bug is a beautiful, joyful and engaging text for young readers. Helen and Asiyeh shared their collaborative writing and art-making process with our students. The students loved reading about Flora and her friendship and journey with Rainbow Hopping Bug. They shared their experience taking the book through the process from inspiration, iterations, editing and publishing. The kids were inspired to create their own stories and art to represent and share meaningful moments in their own lives. Thank you!”
