Beachcomber Bag

Have you ever been to the beach with a child and ended up with a pocket full of ‘treasures’… shells, seaweed, stones, cuttlefish, sand and general debris?

So have we… which is why we created this resource!

Our Beachcomber Bag is a recent addition to our collection and is popular with families who enjoy exploring beach environments. By providing children with their own lightweight small string bag, we give our children responsibility for keeping their own treasures safe and encourage them to enter the world of beachcombing!

Each bag contains our Under the Sea resource, which is a colourful and details under water illustration printed onto 100% cotton. After your beachcomber has gathered their treasures, you can lay the Under the Sea scene on the ground or table, and add your child’s treasures to the picture. It’s a great way to encourage recall of your seaside adventure, enables you to identify the treasures together (what is it called? How does it feel? What does it smell like?, etc) and create a story of your own.

The idea of the Beachcomber Bag is to encourage children to interact with their natural environment in a low impact way, increasing their awareness of which animals and plants are found at the beach or in the sea, and to appreciate the beauty in the detail. Instead of taking shells from the beach at the end of your walk, you might leave them on the sand - ask your child to create a picture with their treasures for others to enjoy.

Our Under the Sea cloth resource can also be reused after your bushland adventure, in many different ways. Wear it as an item of clothing (bandana, neck scarf, cape or apron), Enjoy it as a piece of art (on your bedroom wall), Use it as a picnic accessory (picnic mat or food wrap) or Play with it as a prompt for games (I-spy, animal match, etc). The opportunities are endless!
